Tong has had ideas to do with art in his head all of his life. But it was only when he was in his 40’s, when he decided to make art a career, that those ideas began to manifest.
His current work has influences of Egon Schiele in terms of line, but he creates another dimension through his use of texture (cement) and other ‚unconventional’ material such as varnish, silver leaf, etc. And he still manages to capture the essence of simplicity with the emphasis remaining on form and minimal line.
